This is not the first time an acclaimed series has gone unrewarded.

Currently, GoldDerby is givingReservation Dogsthe sixth-best odds to be nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

I think that mentality sucks when it comes to awards voting, to be clear!

It is your job to pay better attention!

You cant find one.

Though that way lies an awfully big hornets nest (more on that later in this columns run).

Hes hugely worthy of a Guest Actor nomination.

But I am alive and have eyes and know how voting bodies tend to work, so.

Its not operating in a brand-new formal language that makes it challenging or confusing to watch.

Its politics are prominent but not in a Hollywood-unfriendly way, I think?

So then youre left with:The BearandBarryare about sad white dudes, andReservation Dogs… is not.

Alan Sepinwall: Yeah, Im afraid thats the biggest stumbling block.

Nor can you say its because its a genre mishmash.

When I opened that screener and realized it would be him, I clapped my hands in delight.

But theres something, as you suggest, not just hilarious but utterly infuriating about that probability.

Am I so mad at it that I dont want it to happen?

No, I guess not?

kindly, though, Emmys dont do it this way.

Devery Jacobs feels like the best and most likely non-Hawke option … but maybe no?

A.S.: Oh, its Devery, for sure.

She grounded the lead ensemble while the other three were learning on the job.

Shes also extremely polished and charming in interviews, and shes the one who wrote the Ethan Hawke episode.

If you push them together, theres a chance of a rising tide lifting all boats?

I have no problem with Hawke getting nominated; again, hes wonderful.

But only if other performers from the show also get nominated.

There are so many little roles I wish could get recognized!

kindly say Lane Factor.

There are too many great performances!!

A.S.: I want to sayLane Factor, both to just you and because I adore Lane as Cheese.

That is just an impossible, impossible episode of television.

It features none of the regular actors.

Its built around a conflict between two characters that never gets fully articulated.

Barely anything happens until an alien sorry, until a star person appears at the very end.

For that matter, its a hangout episode that concludes with a close encounter of theRez Dogskind!

None of this should work, yet Lowe has complete command of the tone.

And when the star person shows up, it just fits alongside everything else.

I watched that episode and immediately wanted a spinoff about these mid-70s kids.

So lets get back toThe Bear.

Emmy categorization in general is a mess by now, but that one more than most.

Yes,Rez Dogsis also sometimes so sad.

Its baseline, though, is comedy, and its more often that than it is anything else.

It can be beautifully silly.

Heck, the important backstory episode youve just pointed to ends in a star person arriving.

Its a comedy, right?!

A.S.: Oh, its absolutely a comedy.

Even the Deer Lady episode has a very funny framing gadget involving her love of pie.

WhereasThe Bearis much more in thatBreaking Badvein of being intensely dramatic but with funny elements.

When you wish upon a star person, anything can happen.
