If your movie is a love letter to stunts, you better ensure you do the stunts right.
After a high fall goes wrong, Colt abandons the film industry and disappears from Jodys life.
So he jets off to Sydney, where the picture is being shot.
Leitch says he sees the noirish, romantic-action comedy as a kind of prequel to the originalFall Guyseries.
Its a little bit location driven, its a little bit character driven.
She adds that this sometimes drives studios crazy.
OHara and Leitch came up with a huge and varied list of stunts they wanted to accomplish.
At that point in development, theres really nothing thats off-limits, OHara says.
You take a stab at go big.
As planning and preproduction and casting and location scouting proceeded, they eventually whittled down that list.
The aim, of course, was always to do the stunts practically.
Theres a place for those movies.
But what we did onFall Guyreally was practical, and you could feel the consequences.
A lot of the things he thought he was going to have to do he didnt have to do.
There were also certain sentimental touchstones for the filmmakers.
We found out that if the wind was over ten miles an hour, it was not doable.
If it was blowing head-on, it would send the front of the truck way up in the air.
But its still pretty stressful and scary.
(Originally, the fight was supposed to happen on a beer-keg truck.)
OHara noticed the trucks while scouting the city and shared pictures with Leitch.
Thats how we do everything, Leitch says.
You beat up the sequences.
And how does it work for the character?
The cutaways to karaoke allowed the filmmakers to move the action around different parts of the city.
Of course,doubleis a bit of a misnomer.
All these performers are effectively playing Colt Seavers.
People will never believe the anecdotes that I have as a stunt performer, says Leitch.
Were behind the scenes and were doing all the cool shit, and the actors taking all the credit.
Brad has been a huge supporter of the stunt community his entire career.
Thats not always the case.
Holladay came away from the movie impressed with Goslings dedication and his down-to-earth support for his stunt team.
Ryan is so cool, Holladay says.
The irony was not lost on Gosling.
Youre actually the guy who does this, and Im the guy whos acting to do it.
