Just last year, upon his 100th birthday, colleagues and famous fans paid tribute to Lear.
We were all very lucky to have him.
President Joe Biden made an official White House statement on Lears passing.
Other statements came from stars including George Clooney.
Its hard to reconcile that at 101 years old, Norman Lear is gone too soon.
The entire world of reason just lost its greatest advocate and our family lost a dear friend, Clooneystated.
A giant walked in his shoes.
A master of story telling and a healer through his shows!
He is what all of showbiz should be aspiring to.
Thank you, sir.https://t.co/oqJCewoJhr…
Look for the ripple.
You may not see the rise, but know, what you do matters.
You are making a difference.
And especially, know that together: We Will Rise.
I threw another stone.
It wasn’t happening.
So I threw a rock.
Years later I understood what he was getting at.
The ripple is what we all have to be satisfied with.
That’s what we all have to work our hearts out for-to make a ripple.
Then, we won’t see it, but the water level does rise.
The words legend and icon get thrown around too much, but this guy was both.
RIP, Norman Learpic.twitter.com/pMpL3Ek8OK
Rest in Peace Norman Lear.
So grateful I got to hug him last year.
One of my favorite icons.
He said he stayed young at the age of 100 by laughing a lot and being grateful for everything.
“Laughter heals, and is a spiritual experience.”
His sweetness, humor & intelligence will never be matched.
Our deepest condolences to Lyn, his family & friends.
We are so lucky to have his remarkable body of work to remember him by.
He truly changed the world with comedy, fought the good fight and had an amazing life!
It was an honor to talk to him.https://t.co/2PYU7A3Wta
What an incredibly influential & brilliant man.
He was a champion for social justice.
I feel fortunate to have grown up in the time his shows became the standard for comedy on television.
Also he was so humble & generous.Respect.
Rest in peace.https://t.co/mTkatF5vXI
Goodnight Norman.
Thanks for raising me.
It was an honor to be a small part of your impact and to witness it in my lifetime.
He was kind, inspiring and I was stunned that I got to sit in a room with him.
A million years later I interviewed him at the Writer’s Guild Theater and saw all those things again.
Sorry he’s gone.
But wow,what a life.pic.twitter.com/FRa6TEankw
Just heard that Norman Lear has died.
Through his work, he probably shaped my outlook on the world as much or more than my parents.
Below is a pretty good example.
He saw what was possible in that vacuous glowing box and, almost singularly, he made it so.
Would have liked him anyway.
An icon and visionary.
Never in a million years did I think I would meet THEE Norman Lear.
There would be no#TheMsPatShowwithout Norman Lear.
You gave@jordanecooperthe vision to dream.
Thank you for loving us and showing us the way.
