Edgar Allan Poe, The Masque of the Red Death

The year is 1979.

This world needs changing.

The year is 1979.

This world needs changing.

Roderick changed the world, but he didnt make it a better one.

The real star of this episode is Rodericks youngest son,Prospero, who prefers to go by Perry.

(Like each of Rodericks children, Prosperos baroque given nameis pulled directly from a Poe story.)

Roderick tells Dupin that the first thing he needs to know about Perry is that he was crazy.

His father brutally dismisses his idea for an ultra-exclusive nightclub.

Maybe, with a little encouragement, he could have turned out differently.

If only someone had bothered to point him in the right direction.)

Perry is entranced by a supremely confident woman who stalks the party in a red cloak and skull mask.

He doesnt know her at all; we know her as Verna.

Perry is too high and horny to realize what shes really saying.

After all, hes young.

Hes going to live forever.

But when the sprinklers go off, theyre not spitting water; theyre spitting acid.

The partygoers scream and beat at the locked doors, but its already too late.

Theyre melting, theyre melting, what a world, what a world.

Consider the Usher family on notice.

(Of course, theres always the possibility that Roderick is hallucinatingandthe ghosts are real.)

How much money would make you say, We did it?

Does that number even exist?

Thats an idiot question.

Im more of aCalvin & Hobbesguy.

Right there with you, Dupin.
