Lets consider, just for a moment, the climactic sequence ofThe Empire Strikes Back.

After Vader bests Luke, the villain rocks his world by admitting hes the boys father.

But you know a big reason why that scene was so effective back in 1980?

Because it wasnt something the audience anticipated.

Darth Vaders true identity wasnt presented as some big mystery that might one day be solved.

It deepened the story; it didntdrivethe story.

These kinds of stories demanda lotof patience and trust on the part of the viewer.

Both are struck down.

The action is taut and exciting throughout this half-hour (albeit underlit, even for nighttime).

The most likely suspect!

What a… surprise?

But what does this really tell us?

Beyond his affiliation, we dont know much about who Qimir is or where he came from.

Theyve been apart for 16 years.

They each thought the other was dead.

versus The Jedi are good!

Osha, meanwhile, is found unconscious by Qimir, who seems to know who she is.

I expect more reticence from these ladies, given their current circumstances.

I am however looking forward to more of Manny Jacinto acting all sinister and wounded as Qimir.

What have you done with yours?

Sure, Sol and his fellow Knights have their problems.

But when Sol cries out Jecki!

after the Padawan is killed and Qimir blankly asks, Was that its name?…

Well, thats a reminder that a warrior without a code should be feared, not cheered.

Force Ghosts

Star Warsfans who saw the original movies in theaters (like me!)

We were less spoiler-phobic back then; I remember.

But my point still stands: The question of WhoisDarth Vader, really?

wasnt a plot-driver in those first two films.

I have to say: Qimirs hand-crafted Sith mask is pretty badass.

Unless….

Maybe Pip is saved?
