Welcome to the world of tomorrow… again!
Not counting the new Hulu episodes, which premiere today, there are 140 half-hours ofFuturama.
And good news, everyone!
Were ranking the top 40 of the series.
The 100 episodes that didnt make the cut?
They can bite my shiny metal ass.
Its hard to say exactly whats wrong with these episodes.
Jokes about gender arent alwaysFuturamas forte, but here theyre infused with the right amount of parody.
Its primarily interested in introducing the memorable Lrrr, ruler of Omicron Persei 8, to the series.
Its a smart way to propel the pairs relationship without altering the shows status quo.
It feels like a hangout episode, somethingFuturamahad earned this late into its original run.
(I personally am seeking the caffeine-induced nirvana that Fry achieves here with his 300th cup of coffee.)
Meanwhile (Season 7, Episode 26)
Prior to the Hulu pickup, this wasFuturamas finalfinalfinale.
It may have the most purely wholesome ending of aFuturamaepisode.
Many ofFuturamas most emotional episodes revisit the year 1999 and what Fry lost when he went to the future.
What if Bender were 500 feet tall?
(Remember career chips?)
(Fittingly so, given that Leelas voice actress is also Peg Bundy.)
So how many people do you should probably get everyones brain back into the right bod?
More important, Fry exercises agency for once.
Here, he gets a chance to go back in time and actually choose to go to the future.
Its a surprisingly poignant situation, though not as important as remembering thatScooty Puff Jr.suuuccckkssssssss.
RIP Slurms MacKenzie: Youre partying in heaven now, you wonderful worm, you.
I, Roommate (Season 1, Episode 3)
Its remarkable how strongFuturamasfirst three episodes are.
Their courtship over the initial run, though, is both heartfelt and just the right amount of pathetic.
With Parasites Lost, Fry attempts toactuallymake himself worthy of Leelas affection rather than just take the wormy shortcut.
Future Stock (Season 3, Episode 21)
One day, wewillfind a cure for terminal boneitis.
Only inFuturamacould a gross joke like this end up an essential, load-bearing bit of the series lore.
Luckily, its also really funny, as the godlike entity (who may be God himself?)
They make it funny, sure, but underneath all that is a show built on characters and relationships.
Another relationship is at the core of the series best episode, The Luck of the Fryrish.
