Ho-ho-holy crap, its already Christmas, huh?

Saturday Night Live - Season 50

Fortunately, its a miracle of yuletide lunacy.

Watching along feels like gettingGatorade-dumpedwith spiked eggnog.

What binds them all together is a freewheeling looseness, leading to a welcome surplus of unpredictable moments.

Leading the charge is host Chris Rock.

(Lets hope that one goes just as hard.)

Still, the format it comes in is rather inspired.

Sarah Sherman is a wise choice to inherit the role created by Ana Gasteyer and perfected by Amy Poehler.

(The one about being haunted by Jon-Benet Ramseys ghost is a highlight.)

Well, either that or they correctly figured that Chris Rock would cover it in hismonologue.

Mall Santas

The idea of a Black Santa has long confoundedright-wing influencers like Megyn Kelly.

Rock plays the master of ceremonies at Santas Village like Rod Serling introducing a morality-play episode ofThe Twilight Zone.

Rocks delivery is delicious, savoring every pause that helps emphasize the choice each parent must make.

Simpsons Christmas Gift

All great episodes ofThe Simpsonsstart one way before taking a wild swerve.

(Think: thecandy conventionthat leads into the sexual harassment episode, Homer Bad Man.)

ThisSimpsons-themed sketch does the same.

Still, the demented descent into the cast collectively narrating RocksSimpsonsfan-fiction is epically nonsensical.

Gallbladder Surgery

Talk about a surprise entrance.

Both literally and figuratively, its kind of a mess.

But in the best way.

This episode wasnt the first appearance ofSexual Harassment Charlie, who is essentially justthe Hello, human resources?!

memein sketch form, but with the power dynamic as its target instead of handsomeness.

Kenan Thompson previously played the character ina James Franco episodein 2017 anda Scarlett Johansson episodein 2019.

An incisively observed bop!
