Shanks literally gives a piece of himself to save Luffy, who represents the next generation of pirates.

Garp heavily mentors Koby.

This episode, we get another example of this in Sanji, the cook we met last episode.

He too has a rather sad backstory, arguably the saddest one yet.

Turns out young Sanji was a small-time cook in a ships galley until Zeffs Cook Pirates raided the ship.

The old man took an interest in Sanjis cooking, particularly Sanjis talk of the All Blue.

How did Zeff survive?

He cut off his own leg and ate it!

Like Shanks, Zeff literally sacrificed a limb to save a child he owed nothing to.

In the present, the Straw Hats are in shock over Zoros defeat.

Nami takes charge and tells Luffy to find a doctor while she stops the bleeding.

But Luffy cant do that.

This is the last straw for Nami, who already warned Luffy to make the tough choices.

If he doesnt listen, Namis going to make her own tough choice.

She was always going to betray Luffy and hand over the Grand Line map.

Except Luffy broke her trust, and now its too late.

Luffy tries to fight the fishmen, but Arlong is too strong and nearly kills him.

Only Nami and Sanjis intervention saves him.

The Straw Hats are now without a full crew and without a map.

After Namis betrayal, Luffy finally finds the words to say to Zoro.

He knows what to say now, and its so simple: I need you, Zoro.

And, of course, that does it.

Hes finally an officialnakama.

As is Usopp, who lightens the mood with his tall tales.

But they wont be alone in their mission to rescue Nami.

Meanwhile, Mihawk confesses to Garp that he let Luffy go because hes curious to see what happens.

He might be a Warlord of the Sea, but he still wont listen to orders.

Garp, of course, is furious.

Sanji may not have a curled eyebrow like his cartoon counterpart does, but the episodes logo has one!
