Sometimes the decision-makers in Hollywood have a great thing going and then they totally, arbitrarily blow it.

In a better world, moviegoers would be looking forward to theM3GANsequelMEG4NandShip, the follow-up toPlane.
Instead, were gettingM3GAN 2.0andPlane 2: Stowaway.
This should be easy, people!
ThePlanesequels crash-landing into title mediocrity is a newer development.
However, its apparently no longercalledShipbutPlane 2: Stowaway. This is a travesty.
Part of the reasonPlanewas goodis that it didnt have a fancy name-brand movie title.
It was just calledPlane a title so generic it was transcendent, and one that lends itself naturallyto sequels.
Lionsgate seemed to understand this at first; when the sequel was announced in February, it was calledShip.
Fine.Boatwould have been better and funnier, butShipwas acceptable.Plane 2: Stowaway, though?
Its three words long, rather than just one generic noun.
Its clearwhyHollywood is fumbling the ball.M3GANandPlaneare now known IPs with brand awareness.
(The idea ofPlanehaving brand awareness is very funny and also kind of sad.)
This lack of creativity ofjoy isnt a shock.
Dan Harmon hada somewhat famous rantabout how dumb this was.
It doesnt have to be like this.
Too much of modern moviemaking is based on presumed audience metrics and calculated bean pushing.
Theres no joy inPlane 2: Stowaway, no wryness inM3GAN 2.0.
A better world is possible.
And it would be so simple!
Dont overthink the stupidly obvious sequel titles to stupid movies.
