Saxophonist David Sanborn has died at the age of 78.
Sanborn was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 but continued to tour and had dates scheduled until 2025.
I would describe myself more as coming out of the blues/R&B side of the spectrum.
So its not that I necessarily dont want to be called a jazz musician.
Its just that I dont know if thats totally accurate.
Below are tributes to the late musician.
David Sanborn was my houseguest when he was making his first album Hideaway.
One night he played me a sound effect that was supposed to sound like the ocean.
Afterwards he looked at me and said that sounds like a toilet flush and we laughed so hard.

Today we mourn the loss of our dear friend, David Sanborn.
We cherish the countless incredible moments at Blue Note over the last three decades.
Our thoughts are with his family and the music community during this difficult time.
