I was stating the truth; I was answering the question.
I was sent into the hallway on a time out.
Thats when I learned that the truth is always the best punch line.
Its funny because its true is my favorite compliment to receive as a comedian.

I was booked to headline a college in Florida.
My opening act was a heavyset dude whose closing bit involved him stripping down to a hot-pink thong.
The students loved it standing ovation.
I go up with my jokes and walked two-thirds of the crowd within minutes.
A grown man in a thong humbled me.
It was so disingenuous and read as contrived onstage.
I was a journalist for over a decade before I got onstage.

I started out being paid $1,200 to do an hour.
I made more money performing at colleges than I ever did as a journalist.
That allowed me a financial and creative freedom to do what I wanted to in comedy.
I could take risks, say no, and bet on myself.
