Alan Arkin, an American treasure known for his dry delivery and understated pathos, has died.

A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.

He left the group after their European tour in 57.

Arkin then joined the Chicago-based comedy troupe Second City in 1960.
